Selenium
Selenium is a mineral found in most cereals, nuts and eggs. It is also an essential trace mineral found in our bodies. Research says that Selenium can be beneficial to our skin for many reasons. Selenium is an anti-oxidant, which will help fight off free radicals and prevent damage to your skin. It can also help acne when taken internally. Selenium Sulfide 2.5% applied topically has been shown to cure Tinea Versicolor. Selenium Sulfide 1% and 2.5% are used on the scalp to help treat symptoms of dandruff and Seborrheic Dermatitis. In the United States, Selenium Sulfide 2.5% is only available with a prescription from your doctor. Washing with an over the counter dandruff shampoo with Selenium Sulfide for ten minutes every day can help treat the symptoms of these disorders as well.
